What do these stats mean?

After completing a game, you'll see several statistics that measure your performance, for example:

Time: 9.54s | 3BV: 16 | 3BV/s: 1.68
Clicks: 25 | Efficiency: 64%

Time

The total time in seconds from your first click to solving the board. The timer starts when you break the first cell (or place a flag) and stops when all safe cells are revealed.

3BV (Bechtel's Board Benchmark Value)

The minimum number of clicks theoretically needed to solve the board perfectly. This value depends on the mine layout - boards with more openings (areas with no adjacent mines) have lower 3BV values, while boards with scattered mines have higher 3BV values. It's a measure of board difficulty independent of your solving method.

Example: A beginner board might have a 3BV of 15, meaning it could theoretically be solved in 15 perfect clicks, regardless of how many clicks you actually made.

3BV/s (3BV per second)

Your solving speed calculated as 3BV / Time. This is the most important metric for comparing performance across different games, as it accounts for board difficulty. A higher 3BV/s indicates faster solving speed.

Clicks

The total number of clicks (blocks breaked and blocks placed) you made during the game, including revealing cells, placing flags, and chording. Fewer clicks generally means more efficient play.

Efficiency

Calculated as (3BV / Clicks) * 100%. This shows how efficiently you solved the board. Perfect efficiency would be 100%, meaning you used exactly the minimum number of clicks needed.

Example: If a board has a 3BV of 20 and you solved it in 25 clicks, your efficiency would be (20 / 25) * 100% = 80%.

Techniques & resources

Improving your minesweeper speed requires mastering techniques like recognizing common patterns, efficiency logic and strategies or having a bit of luck to break these 50/50 :^)

Chording Technique

When you break a revealed number that already has the correct number of flags placed around it, all remaining adjacent cells are revealed automatically. If you flag incorrectly and chord, you'll hit a mine.

Example: If a cell shows "3" and you've flagged 3 adjacent cells, breaking that numbered cell again reveals all other adjacent cells instantly. This eliminates unnecessary clicks and speeds up gameplay.
